UPDATE:
(Pittsfield) Sentencing for the Commonwealth v. Hassan and Commonwealth vs. Shabazz occurred on Tuesday, February 21st. Both defendants (Mr. Hassan and Mr. Shabazz) were sentenced by the honorable Judge Cahillane to 1-2 years in state penitentiary.

(Pittsfield) On Thursday, February 16th Oasis Hasan (10/17/97 of Yonkers, NY) and Ahmed Shabazz (5/21/95 of Yonkers, NY) were both found guilty of Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Distribute. Both men were acquitted of charges relating to items found in a locked safe found inside the residence (Trafficking in Heroin (18-36 grams), Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and 2 counts of Possession of Ammunition).
The defendants had been arrested during the execution of a search warrant on November 1, 2019, at a residence on 3 Loftus Street, North Adams. Following the search warrant, they were charged, along with the apartment owner, Dawnmarie Freeman, and the leader of the drug dealing operation, Marcus Johnson.
District Attorney Shugrue thanks the jury for their service. The prosecution of individuals who bring illegal firearms and large quantities of drugs into Berkshire County are a priority for DA Shugrue.
The case was tried in front of the Honorable Michael Cahillane in Berkshire Superior Court. The case was investigated by Det. Josh Zustra of the North Adams Police Department. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Giarolo represented the Commonwealth.
Mr. Hasan and Mr. Shabazz have both been held without the right to bail. Sentencing for the case will take place on Tuesday, February 21st in Superior Court.
