Administrative Support

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office seeks to fill a full-time legal assistant / administrative assistant position to join our administrative support team. 

Berkshire District Attorney’s Office serves all 32 cities and towns in Berkshire County and is responsible for all-criminal prosecutions in Berkshire County.  The Office handles cases in the County’s District Courts (including Jury sessions), Juvenile Courts, and Superior Court, and is responsible for all appeals to the State Appeals Court and Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.   In addition, the Office provides critical services and programs to victims and their families and to the community at large. The Office is a Commonwealth agency, established in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 12, Sections 12 and 13.

Responsibilities

    • All general clerical duties including, but not limited to, case file management, photocopying, printing, mailing and filing.
    • Maintaining and tracking all open cases, including but not limited to: checking dockets, scanning documentation, updating excel spreadsheets, and organizing files.
    • Processing discovery/evidence; both digital and paper documents.
    • Perform daily updates to case management system.
    • Sending correspondence to victims and witnesses.
    • Running records and communicating with other agencies.
    • Positions may require lateral rotation within the Office to similar positions, based on office needs including reception coverage.

Qualifications Required:

  • Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent proofreading, grammar, and data entry skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Fulfill the mandatory education and training requirements of the State Ethics Commission.
  • Become familiar with and follow the provisions of the Office Personnel Policies.
  • Participate in training relevant to Office functions.
  • Interact in a respectful and professional manner with the public, judicial and law enforcement personnel and office staff.
  • Complete work assignments in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

All full-time positions offer a State benefit package that includes medical/dental/vision insurance, life and disability insurance, retirement plans, and paid vacation, personal and sick leave and paid parental leave. Payroll is bi-weekly and based on a 37.5 hour work week.
