MDT Coordinator

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office seeks a professional to serve as the Multi-Disciplinary Team Coordinator. The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented team player that has the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matter.  The Multi-Disciplinary (MDT) Coordinator acts as coordinator for a team response to reports of child maltreatment, fosters collaboration and communication amongst agencies, and works to minimize the number of times that children are interviewed, and facilitate a swift and culturally sensitive response to child victims and witnesses.  Work is guided by the National Children’s Alliance standards as well as the Berkshire County Children’s Advocacy Center Standard Operating Guidelines

MISSION OF THE BERKSHIRE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office serves all 32 cities and towns in Berkshire County and is responsible for all-criminal prosecutions in Berkshire County.  The Office handles cases in the County’s District Courts (including Jury sessions), Juvenile Courts, and Superior Court, and is responsible for all appeals to the State Appeals Court and Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.   In addition, the Office provides critical services and programs to victims and their families and to the community at large.

Responsibilities

  • Member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) responding to allegations of child sexual/physical abuse, neglect, witness to domestic and/or community violence, child exploitation and trafficking;
  • Assist in agency understanding of MDT response protocol according to Children’s Advocacy Center Standard Operating Guidelines;
  • Completes intake forms for child abuse referrals and gathers pertinent information in consideration of a child forensic interview so as to prevent duplicative child interviews;
  • Coordinates timely information sharing among MDT partners, including law enforcement and CPS investigators, in order to best inform next steps in response to child abuse allegations, which may result in a forensic interview of child or an ad hoc MDT meeting;
  • Ensure adequate provisions are made to overcome language and communication barriers and identify any issues that may affect service delivery for children and families during MDT interview process;
  • Identify MDT members required to attend forensic interviews at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) and coordinate with all to schedule the interview keeping in mind agency mandates such as DCF investigation timelines;
  • If a child forensic interview is to occur in an alternative setting assure child’s comfort, privacy and protection from alleged perpetrator is prioritized;
  • Monitor policies and procedures for which forensic interviews are conducted using the CAC model;
  • Compile statistical information for the Child Abuse Unit, including as requested by the Berkshire County Kids Place (CAC ) and Massachusetts District Attorney’s Association;
  • Track child abuse referrals and forensic interview status through excel spreadsheet or other case management system;
  • Coordinate professional trainings for MDT members and orient new team members to MDT model as directed;
  • Responsible for learning about diverse socioeconomic, racial, cultural, and ethnic populations in Berkshire County and ensuring that service delivery is reflective of an individual’s unique needs;
  • Attend Berkshire CAC and Child Abuse Unit meetings and others as requested by direct supervisor;
  • Other duties as required by the Director of Victim/Witness Unit or Chief of the Child Abuse Unit

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail;
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work independently and be part of a team;
  • Strong computer skills, must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and be able to maintain a professional workplace etiquette;
  • Strong personal character and be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency or Conversational Abilities in Spanish;
  • Understanding of Children’s Advocacy Center Model;
  • Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team setting;
  • Working knowledge of the criminal justice system and interest in public service
