On October 24, 2021, at approximately 11:54 PM, officers of the North Adams Police Department responded to a 911 call for a report that Isaiah Calderon was trying to break into an apartment.

Earlier in the evening, the victim, who had a prior romantic relationship with the perpetrator, saw Calderon walking by her apartment on the way to the Key West Lounge in North Adams. After leaving the bar, Calderon got in a verbal argument with the victim, who was sitting on her third-floor apartment’s front porch. Calderon told the victim he was coming upstairs. At this point, the victim went inside her apartment to lock and brace the door. Later the victim stated she did this because she knew Calderon was ‘dangerous’ and carried guns.

Video surveillance (installed by the victim outside her apartment door) showed Calderon walking up the stairs and attempting to pull open and kick in her door. The victim called 911. In the call Calderon can be heard yelling and banging on the door. Shortly after the sound of multiple gunshots can be heard.  The victim stayed on the phone with dispatchers throughout the incident and told them that Calderon left the area as a passenger in a white SUV.

When officers arrived at the scene, they identified the make and model of the vehicle,  a 2020 Honda CRV, and issued a ‘Be On the Lookout’ for it.

At approximately 1:24 AM, an officer from the Adams Police Department who was parked on Route 8, near the Holland Company, observed a white Honda CRV traveling South. The officer called for police back up and, when they arrived, performed a felony motor vehicle stop. Calderon was taken into custody without incident and transported to the North Adams Police Station. (At the time of his arrest, Calderon had two active warrants for open cases in Central Berkshire District Court.)

Police checked Calderon for weapons and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. Massachusetts State Police and Becket Police K9 units arrived on scene and conducted area searches. No weapons were found.

Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services and Massachusetts State Police Ballistics Unit arrived at the victim’s apartment building to process the scene. They observed bullet holes in a vacant 2nd floor apartment’s glass and found six shell casings on the floor of the 2nd floor apartment. Later laboratory analysis determined that the casings were fired from a 9mm weapon reported to be carried by Calderon.

The Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab arrived at the North Adams Police Department and tested Calderon’s hands for gunshot primer residue. His clothes were sent to the crime lab for furth residue testing. Residue was found on Calderon’s sweatshirt.

Calderon has a lengthy criminal history. He has previously been convicted of violent crimes which involved firearms. In 2017 Calderon served two and a half years in the House of Corrections out of the Hampden Superior Court, with 5 years’ probation which was violated in 2020.

Assistant District Attorney Heather Valentine represented the Commonwealth. Director of Victim Witness Advocates, Jane Kibby-Peirce served on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office. Law enforcement included the North Adams Police Department; Adams Police Department; Massachusetts State Police; Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services; Massachusetts State Police Ballistics Unit and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab.
