Pittsfield, MA- On Tuesday, November 18th, Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue, in partnership with Mayor Peter Marchetti of Pittsfield and Berkshire County Sheriff Thomas Bowler, hosted a press conference announcing the results of a lengthy investigation into suspected drug trafficking in Pittsfield. The investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs and illegal firearms as well as the indictment of 9 individuals suspected to be involved in the trafficking ring. The investigation was led by the Pittsfield Police, the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, and the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Taskforce.
After a multi-month investigation, law enforcement executed eight search warrants connected to an alleged drug trafficking ring operating primarily out of Pittsfield. The search warrants were executed between early August and early September (2025). Law enforcement seized 911 grams of heroin (approximate street value of $75,000 to $90,000), 1,004 grams of cocaine (approximate street value of $80,000 to $104,000), and 68.5 pills (sent to the lab for substance testing). Police recovered 5 illegal firearms including 2 high-capacity firearms. Along with the guns and drugs, law enforcement seized $103,076 in cash suspected to come from drug sales that occurred prior to the execution of the search warrants. One of the search warrants was for a residence in West Springfield alleged to be connected to the drug trafficking ring. Nine individuals were indicted in connection with the alleged drug trafficking. The individuals continue to be arraigned. Their names will be released once all nine have been arraigned.
Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue stated, “I want to take a moment to recognize the immense effort and commitment of our law enforcement officers and assistant district attorneys. Investigations of this magnitude require countless hours of detective and legal work to ensure a thorough and successful outcome. When the time comes to execute search warrants, our officers and State Troopers put their lives on the line: entering buildings to recover dangerous drugs and firearms, and to arrest those responsible for bringing violence into our communities. I also want to acknowledge the unwavering support of Mayor Peter Marchetti and Pittsfield Police Chief Thomas Dawley. Investigations of this scale are only possible through partnerships. Both the Mayor and Chief are committed to public safety. It is through this shared commitment that we are able to continue to build safer communities. ”
He continued, “When I entered office, I vowed to stem the tide of violence affecting Pittsfield and the surrounding areas. We have made significant progress through operations. Moving forward, I will continue to strengthen partnerships with local and state agencies to ensure we have the resources and support needed to carry out this critical work.”
Pittsfield Mayor Peter Marchetti commented, “Throughout my administration, I have made it a priority to work with our law enforcement partners to take proactive action against those that are causing harm and destruction in our city. I want to express my appreciation to the District Attorney, members of the Pittsfield Police Department, Berkshire County Law Enforcement Taskforce, and the State Police Detective Unit for their collaboration in this work.”
