On October 18, 2025, Pittsfield Police responded to 65 Cherry Street following a shot spotter activation. When officers arrived, witnesses confirmed hearing a gun shot and observing a male party fleeing the area. While outside the 65 Cherry Street residence, officers observed a vehicle parked near the neighboring residence with a bullet hole in the windshield and an additional bullet hole in the side of 67 Cherry Street. Based on witness descriptions at the scene, law enforcement was able to quickly locate the Defendant within 30 minutes of the incident. While attempting to place him under arrest, the Defendant vigorously fought officers and continued to resist arrest as officers attempted to place him in a cruiser to transport him to the Pittsfield Police Station. When the Defendant was apprehended, law enforcement recovered a fanny pack he had that contained a loaded 9mm firearm, with one round in the chamber and a 15 round magazine that contained 10 rounds of ammunition.

A further investigation into the incident revealed that the Defendant and a second individual were inside a vehicle, the same vehicle with the gun shot hole, when an argument over a phone charger ensued. In reaction to the argument, the Defendant shot at one round directly at the individual in the car and fired three additional rounds pointing away from the person inside the car.

District Attorney Shugrue, “This incident was not just alarming because there was gun violence, but also because it occurred in such close proximity to a school. I will not waver on my stance towards gun violence in our community- gun violence must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. While I am committed to supporting those who need our help with recovery options and courts of hope, we must also protect our children and communities from the threat of violence that can claim lives in an instant.” He continued, “I commend the Pittsfield Police for their response and dedication to quickly solving this crime.”

Assistant District Attorney Rachel Eramo represented the Commonwealth. Pittsfield Police were the lead law enforcement agency.
