Pittsfield, MA-On Thursday [11/6] evening, an arrest was made on probable cause in connection with the murder of Brodie Slonski. Brodie was murdered in Pittsfield on Sunday, October 26th (see original press release below). Today [11/7], Jaequan Spratling (DOB: 12/28/2006) has been charged Murder and Attempted Armed Robbery. Spratling will be arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court. The arraignment is expected to occur in Central Berkshire District Court at 2pm.
District Attorney Shugrue stated, “I want to first thank the public for their patience while law enforcement worked to identify a suspect/s in Brodie’s murder. While the police successfully arrested a perpetrator within ten days of the crime, I recognize that living with fear in your neighborhood is a harrowing experience. I secondly want to recognize the tireless work of the Pittsfield Police as they have dedicated themselves around the clock to this case. There have been many sleepless nights in pursuit of solving Brodie’s murder. I am thankful to have such committed law enforcement in our county.”
The District Attorney continued, “Brodie was murdered in the close knit Morningside community. A community filled with families and small, locally owned businesses. The events that took place shook the neighborhood. I have always said that I have no tolerance for violence and guns in our community. Such events in the Berkshires are fortunately rare; however, when they occur, they shatter not only families but also schools and our community at large. My heart is with Brodie’s parents and family. I vow that the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office will do everything in its power to bring those responsible for his murder to justice.”
Chief Dawley of the Pittsfield Police commented, “I am incredibly proud of the team of Pittsfield police officers who have put in countless hours to solve this case. Their continued persistence and dedication to public safety is evident. My thoughts are with Brodie’s family during this impossibly difficult time.”
The investigation into the murder remains ongoing. While a suspect in the murder has been identified, Pittsfield Police continue to work to determine if there were any other individuals involved in the murder.
