North Adams, MA- At approximately 8:30pm on Wednesday, September 2nd, the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office was notified of a motor vehicle and motorcycle collision that occurred at the intersection of Route 8 and South State Street in North Adams. (The intersection is the south entrance to the North Adams’ Walmart.) The collision occurred at approximately 7:44pm. The motorcycle was traveling southbound on Route 8. An SUV traveling northbound, turned left heading toward South State Street, crossing the northbound lane. The SUV struck the motorcycle traveling on the southbound lane. Both the motorcycle and SUV sustained severe damage, with the airbags deploying in the SUV.
The driver of the motorcycle, a young adult, was transported by Northern Berkshire EMS to North Adams Regional Hospital. The driver was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Identifying information for the decedent will be made in the coming days.
The collision remains under investigation. Should charges be brought forward against the driver of the SUV, the identification of the driver will be made at that time.
