Juvenile Unit
The Juvenile Unit reviews cases for prosecution or diversion programming involving individuals under the age of 18 who are accused of criminal offenses. The unit works to prevent juvenile offending through educational diversion programming. Young people are referred to community-based programming to teach them better ways to deal with conflict, trauma, substance use, and mental health problems. Prosecution of serious crimes committed by juveniles can lead to Youthful Offender prosecutions which may result in adult sentences for an offender under the age of 18.
