On Friday, May 23rd Christopher King (11/06/1990) was found guilty of three charges related to domestic violence and sexual assault. King was found guilty by a jury of his peers.
The Defendant was found guilty of:
• Rape
• Suffocation or Strangulation
• Assault and Batter on a Family or Household Member
The Defendant was found not guilty on a second count of Rape. The charges and subsequent guilty verdict stem from an incident in 2017 involving an intimate partner.
Christopher King has a history of domestic violence. In 2017, King plead guilty to Assault and Battery on a Family or Household Member
District Attorney Shugrue stated, “I first want to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward and testifying during the trial. I also want to thank the jury. This is the second guilty verdict surrounding sexual assault in just two weeks. While rape is all to common, it is extremely difficult to prosecute. The CSI effect has resulted in juries expecting evidence that simply does not exist in the real world. Domestic and sexual violence are often misunderstood allowing many perpetrators to evade justice.”
He continued, “I commend the prosecutors and advocates in my office in helping the jurors understand the intricacies of sexual assault when it comes to these cases. I have invested grant funds to send prosecutors and advocates to trainings on prosecuting cases of sexual assault and domestic violence. It is rewarding to see their hard work come to fruition in these guilty verdicts.
Sentencing will take place on Wednesday, May 28th, 2pm at Berkshire Superior Court.
