On August 25th Eric Anderson was apprehended in the State of Florida by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. He was apprehended on an extradition warrant issued by the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.

On April 16, 2025, Eric Anderson was indicted by a Grand Jury at Berkshire Superior Court on two counts of Indecent Assault and Battery on a Child Under 14. The incidents stemmed from alleged crimes that occurred in June 1980. Following the indictment, the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant for the Defendant with limited extradition inclusive of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Anderson’s last known state of residence.  The Berkshire State Police Detective Unit (SPDU) assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office continued an investigation into the Defendant’s whereabouts and found a second residential address belonging to Anderson in the State of Florida. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office issued an arrest warrant with limited extradition now inclusive of the State of Florida. Using license plate reader technology, and other investigative means, the SPDU assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office was able to confirm recent activity and/or operation of a vehicle register to the Defendant in Bradenton, Florida. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office then made contact with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office which has jurisdiction over Bradenton, Florida. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Warrants/Detective Division successfully apprehended Anderson on August 25th.

Eric Anderson opted against signing the extradition and is contesting extradition. He is currently being held by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office on a Fugitive from Justice charge without right to bail. In approximately 30 days, Anderson is scheduled to reappear in a Florida court to face the Fugitive of Justice charge. The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office is in the process of seeking the return of Anderson from the State of Florida.

District Attorney Shugrue thanked law enforcement partners for this successful apprehension: “I am grateful to law enforcement in both Virginia and Florida, specifically the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, for their assistance in apprehending Eric Anderson. Upon his return to Massachusetts, the Defendant will face long overdue justice for his heinous crimes.”
