Over $30,000 Drug Seizure Leads to Drug Trafficking Charges

(Pittsfield) District Attorney Timothy J. Shugrue announced today that a search warrant was executed on January 10th at 29 Alden Ave in Pittsfield, MA by the Pittsfield Police and State Police resulting in the arrest of Alan J. Ramos. Mr. Ramos was arraigned this morning in Central Berkshire District Court on drug trafficking charges. District Attorney Shugrue led the arraignment. Heather Valentine will be prosecuting the case for the Commonwealth.


Upon execution of the search warrant, the Pittsfield Police and State Police Berkshire County Detective Unit seized 90 grams of methamphetamine, 45 grams of heroin, and 30 grams of cocaine amounting to approximately $31,500 street value of illegal narcotics and over $6,000 in cash at the residence.


During arraignment DA Shugrue requested, and was granted, $100k bail for Mr. Ramos due to a recent history of the defendant providing three different addresses to the court since November, 2022 in regards to pending domestic assault charges on a minor and also being a potential flight risk (the defendant, while living in the US legally holds citizenship in the Dominican Republic).  Shugrue commented, “I’ve never in 36 years seen this amount of meth, not only in Berkshire County, but in Western MA.” Additionally, Mr. Ramos’ previous bail on four domestic assault charges was revoked and he was held without the right to bail for 90 days based upon the new charges brough upon him today (Wednesday January 11th).


District Attorney Shugrue stated, “I want to commend the Pittsfield Police in conjunction with the Berkshire County Detective Unit on the excellent work. Our office will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. With this recovery as well as the arrest and recovery of two illegal firearms early this week, we are setting the tone in Berkshire County. If you break the law, if you bring guns and drugs into our community, you will be held and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”


If convicted, Ramos faces 3 ½ years to 20 years in State Prison on the drug trafficking related charges. Alan Ramos additionally has a current open case for domestic assault.
