On Tuesday, October 1st, the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force apprehended three suspected large-scale drug traffickers suspected to be operating out of 30 Brown Street, Pittsfield MA. The individuals arrested are Kareem Archibald (Bronx, NY); Maurice Simmons (Bronx, NY); and Jah’Rell J. Mayes (Pittsfield, MA). Law enforcement identified the suspects and the suspected trap hours, 30 Brown Street, based on an extensive investigation leading up to their arrests.
The Defendants were arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court on October 2nd. All three Defendants are charged with:
• Trafficking in heroin over 36 grams less than 100 grams
• Cocaine over 100 grams less than 200 grams
Kareem Archibald and Maurice Simmons are both being held on $100,000 bail. Jah’Rell J. Mayes is being held on $50,000 bail.
On October 1st, at approximately 12:52pm, law enforcement observed Simmons, Archibald, and Mayes walking out of 30 Brown Street. Simmons was wearing a satchel and Archibald and Mayes both carried backpacks. Law enforcement moved in and placed all three men under arrest. Archibald and Simmons were handcuffed without issue. Mayes fled and was later apprehended on 18 Oak Street, Pittsfield. All the bags recovered by law enforcement contained drugs and other evidence of drug dealing.
On October 1st, at approximately 1:35pm, the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force and the Berkshire County Special Response Team executed a knock and announce search warrant at 30 Brown Street. The Special Response Team entered to clear the house. No one was found inside when the warrant was executed. Law enforcement recovered guns, ammunition, drugs, cash, and other items that indicated the house was used as a central location for drug dealing.
Combined, law enforcement recovered approximately $20,729 in cash; approximately 146 grams of cocaine (worth between $7,300 to $14,600); multiple digital scales (digital scales are used to weigh drugs); numerous cell phones (drug dealers often possess multiple cell phones to communicate with other dealers and customers); an illegal firearm; and an illegal ammunition.
Berkshire District Attorney Shugrue stated “I do not tolerate large-scale drug trafficking in the Berkshires. Once again, the Task Force conducted a comprehensive investigation and taken action to apprehend individuals bringing drugs and violence. We will ensure that these individuals are held accountable for their actions.”
The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force recovered the following from 30 Brown Street Simmons’ person and bag:
• One cellular telephone
• Approximately 14 grams of Cocaine
• Approximately 790 baggies of heroin
• Approximately $2,739
• A functioning digital scale
The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force recovered the following from Mayes’ person and bag:
• One cellular telephone
• Approximately 16 grams of Cocaine
• Approximately 250 baggies of Heroin
The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force recovered the following from Archibald’s person and bag:
• Three cellular telephones
• Approximately 116 grams of cocaine (worth between $5,800 to $11,600)
The Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force recovered the following from 30 Brown Street, Pittsfield, MA:
• Approximately 50 half packs (2,500 baggies) of heroin
• Black Sig Sauer 9mm loaded with eleven rounds
• Taurus Millennium .40 Caliber loaded with ten rounds
• Additional 9mm magazine with ten rounds of 9mm ammunition
• Additional fifty rounds of 9mm ammunition in a box
• Approximately $5,000 in a duffle bag
• Approximately $11,950 in a safe
• Approximately $26
• Two functioning digital scales
